Hatun
The Hatun are a methodical and communal people, existing in the mountains west of Pentarex where they have, over the span of time before the Pentarexians came into the world, fashioned a civilization of great walls and gardened terraces hewn into the upper reaches of the mountains. A great paved road of bridges and armaments connects these mountain cities, build both on the outside and inside of these mountains, and unifies them in trade and military might.
They have created an empire spanning the mountain ranges, ruling over various minor races in the valleys who pay taxes for protection from the monstrous Inun – giants. This tax however is not monetary, as the Hatun rarely deal in currency and there is no “Hatun currency” as the central authority under the Church of Itni mandates the collective appropriation of goods and products, distributing such goods to the masses so that none are found in need.
Every Hatu is required to spend some time employed in their armies and to learn the ramhammer, the great shield and the long spear. Such fighting forces have proven themselves time and time again to be indomitable, as Pentarex’s swiftly aborted attempt to invade the Hatun country proved.

Language
The Hatun are well able to speak the Pentarexian tongue, but few are they Pentarexians who – once attaining full friendship with the Hatun – can speak in the full range of melodies, rhythms and volume that fluency requires. This is in part because the Hatun do not gladly teach their secret tongue to those of an alien race; on the other hand, it must be concluded that the Pentarexian voice, save for the rare female of the human race, is not well suited for it. The Anitou do not tend to share this difficulty and it has been noted that some Narpace on the Hatun border speak the Hatun tongue to a degree.
Yet, for scant years after the founding of Pentarex until the reign of Qua-Yoer and during the ending years of the reign of Pen Yoer and afterward, it can be said that close friendship was found in many places between the Hatun and those of Pentarexian stock. In these times, many Hatun were sent by the Hatun rulers to travel, labour and trade about the Kingdom of Pentarex where they used the language of Pentarex, speaking seldomly and only to one another in the Hatun language. Speaking thusly in secret, they preserved it, tending it and guarding it as a trasure of their homeland such that it remained virtually unchanged from the language of the homeland.
